Senator Considers Voucher Students the “State’s Children”

[Madison, Wisc…] Sen. Luther Olsen (R-Ripon) has proposed a school accountability bill that would apply to public, charter, and choice schools in a similar fashion. During a public hearing on Thursday, Olsen said the state must hold schools accountable that accept taxpayer funding. Sen. John Lehman (D-Racine) would like to see this extended to students whose parents receive the private school tax deduction. However, Olsen said that would be unlikely because private school students are their parents responsibility, whereas students that receive taxpayer funding are the state’s responsibility.
