Wisconsin Taxpayers Win with Train Cancellation Announcement

December 9, 2010 1:30 pm

MacIver Institute President Brett Healy released the following statement upon news that the federal government was cancelling the Milwaukee-to-Madison rail project:

“Wisconsinites neither wanted nor needed a train from downtown Milwaukee to the State Capitol in Madison. Today’s announcement proves that Secretary LaHood’s previous assertion that there was no way the train boondoggle could be stopped was just more economic nonsense from the Obama Administration. Wisconsin’s taxpayers and our state’s economy will be better off now that we won’t have to finance train station construction and pay for millions in annual operating costs for a train few would ever ride. This is a big win for Governor-elect Walker, even before he’s sworn in.”
