Journal Times editorial: Racine shouldn’t pay for Milwaukee’s things

For the past decade we have been hearing chatter about the great need for a streetcar system in Downtown Milwaukee. These new streetcars would draw tourists and it would be a wonderful link for workers getting to their jobs, advocates say. It would make all the difference for Milwaukee in terms of economic development, they say.

It is so important that Milwaukee officials argue everyone in the region that receives utilities from We Energies should pay for this “benefit” through increased energy rates.

Thankfully, the Public Service Commission did not agree with those officials and they decided April 23 that Milwaukee will have to pay to move utilities for the streetcar line if they want it.
