Public Hearings on State Budget to Begin Next Week

MacIver Budget Blog | March 13, 2015

[Madison, Wisc…] The Joint Committee on Finance (JFC) kicks off a series of budget hearings around the state next week to get public input on the 2015-17 state budget. The first stop will be Brillon, WI on Wednesday and then the committee will travel to Alverno College in Milwaukee on Friday.

Expect to hear from special interests as they try to drum up support for friendly policies and funding for pet projects in their respective industries and regions.

The Legislative Fiscal Bureau confirmed this week that the Governor’s budget proposal will end 2017 with $128 million left in the bank after JFC Co-Chairs Sen. Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) and Rep. John Nygren (R-Marinette) requested a fiscal statement. Will Democrat members of the committee continue to call the proposal a “crisis budget”? We’ll find out next week.

Below is the complete list of dates, locations and times of the out-state budget hearings. Get there early to have your say!
