DWD Task Force Targets Wisconsin’s Gig Economy

Governor Evers’ newest task force is looking for ways to slow down Wisconsin’s gig economy including companies like Uber and Lyft.

Governor Evers’ Task Force on Misclassification and Payroll Fraud is looking for ways to stop the increase of independent contractors in Wisconsin. Those workers don’t generate payroll taxes or unemployment insurance payments for the state, and they don’t join unions. However, those workers also have incredible freedom in dictating when, how, and where they will work. If the task force succeeds, it could spell doom to Wisconsin’s exploding “gig economy.” It’s one of the few issues where Republicans and Democrats see eye-to-eye. MNS’ Bill Osmulski has more.
