The Hypocrisy of Democrats on Voter ID
Today, we call out the blatant hypocrisy of Democratic lawmakers who supported $1 million in funding for voter ID programs in Haiti while steadfastly opposing similar measures to ensure election integrity in the United States. This double standard undermines the principles of fair and secure elections at home and exposes a troubling inconsistency in their priorities.
The recently passed the Rescissions Act of 2025 HR4 rescinded $1 million in wasteful spending allocated for Haiti’s voter ID programs, a move championed by those committed to prioritizing American taxpayers. Yet, every House and Senate Democrat voted against this bill, effectively defending foreign spending while simultaneously blocking efforts like the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act (H.R. 8281), which would require proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration in federal elections. The SAVE Act, passed by the House on July 10, 2024, with a vote of 221-198, saw near-unanimous Democratic opposition, despite its aim to protect the integrity of American elections.
US Senator Tammy Baldwin and Representatives Mark Pocan and Gwen Moore all signed a letter to the US Attorney General in 2016 requesting the AG to bring whatever resources possible to dismantle Wisconsin’s Voter ID law, demonstrating a lack of interest in securing the integrity of both Wisconsin elections as well as our nation’s.
Secure elections are the bedrock of a democratic Republic, and requiring identification to vote is a standard practice in many nations, including those Democrats seem eager to support financially. This contradiction raises serious questions about their commitment to safeguarding the American electoral process.
It is unconscionable that Democrats would advocate for funding voter ID initiatives abroad while dismissing common-sense voter ID laws in the United States as unnecessary or discriminatory. Democratic leaders should explain to their constituents why they prioritize foreign election programs over ensuring that only American citizens vote in our elections.
The American people deserve transparency, accountability, and a commitment to election integrity that matches the standards they apparently support for other nations.
