The Democrat Party is desperate to get the Green Party’s Presidential Candidate, Jill Stein, off the Wisconsin ballot, and the State Supreme Court is determined to do everything it can to help.
The Democrat National Committee’s Deputy Operations Director in Wisconsin, David Strange, filed a complaint with the Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC) on Aug. 15th to take the Green Party off the ballot for November. Strange argues that if the Green Party wins Wisconsin, it does not have any qualified electors to cast the votes, therefore its candidate should not be allowed to appear on the ballot at all. He wanted WEC to act by Aug. 27th “at the very latest.”
WEC Administrator Meagan Wolfe promptly rejected the complaint, because Strange filed the complaint against the Wisconsin Green Party instead of an election official, as required by law. Strange reacted by running to the Supreme Court. On Monday, Aug. 19th, he filed a lawsuit against WEC and the Green Party to have Stein removed from the ballot.
The Supreme Court, which consists of a 4-3 liberal majority, reacted with breakneck speed, requiring WEC and the Green Party to respond to the complaint within 28 hours. The order was sent at 1 pm on Thursday, and the deadline for responses is 5 pm on Friday. The Green Party, apparently, hasn’t even had time to hire a lawyer yet to answer the challenge.
“The majority treats this matter differently, bending over backwards to expedite the court's consideration of this case,” conservative Justice Rebecca Bradley remarked in her dissent. “. To my knowledge, at no time in history has the court issued such orders before parties had made their appearances or retained lawyers.”
The Green Party said the lawsuit is an attack on voters’ rights and is further evidence that the Democrat Party is, in reality, undemocratic.
“The Democratic Party must learn that they cannot manipulate elections through attacks on the voter’s rights to choose the candidates who match their values,” said Dr. Michael White, co-chair of the Wisconsin Green Party. “Their actions are undemocratic, and we, the party of people, planet, and peace, will not stand by and idly watch these attacks on democracy.”
