Green Party Candidate's Gas Station Tirade
Wisconsin’s Green Party is not distancing itself from a Green Party candidate for Congress who went on a profanity-laced tirade Thursday.
Candidate Matthew Arndt was caught on video, screaming at a man in a Mequon gas station parking lot.
"I am running for Congress here in the 6th District, and fuck Israel. And go fuck yourself," Arndt yelled.
The video does not show how Arndt's tirade began, but the man who filmed the encounter later told reporters that he has an Israeli flag sticker on his car that reads "Fuck Hamas."
The man says that triggered Arndt.
"I guess that really pissed off the guy behind me, and when he got the chance, he just got next to me and opened the window and started cursing and giving me the finger, almost trying to push me off the lane," the man told the New York Post.
Police in Mequon say the arrested Arndt for disorderly conduct with a hate crime enhancer.
Wisconsin's Green Party, however, said it is not ready to cut ties with Arndt.
The Wisconsin Green Party stands firmly for Palestinian human rights and an end to U.S. support for the war in Gaza. Shouting obscenities at someone in a parking lot doesn't advance that cause. We've spoken with Matthew and he said he will address this directly. The Coordinating Council will wait for the police report before commenting further on what happened," the party said in a statement.
Arndt is running in the 6th Congressional District, which includes parts of the northern Milwaukee suburbs, but also stretches to Two Rivers, and as far west as the Wisconsin Dells. Republican Glenn Grothman is the current congressman in the 6th. He's running for re-election this year as well.
