Elon Musk Blamed for Government Shutdown
Wisconsin’s Democrats on Capitol Hill are blaming a possible, partial government shutdown on Elon Musk.
Milwaukee Congresswoman Gwen Moore on Friday once again took to Twitter to post a series of comments and memes saying that Musk is driving President-elect Trump to shut down the government just before Christmas.
“Yes. Let military families take out payday loans to eat for the next 30 days and to buy gifts for their family,” Moore wrote in one post. “The Musk Admin is off to a horrible start. Sequels are always worse.”
She is not the only Wisconsin Democrat who said Musk is essentially the president.
Madison Congressman Mark Pocan said pretty much the same thing.
“The relationship between Elon Musk and Donald Trump is no different than the relationship between you & your home mortgage lender,” Pocan wrote on Twitter. “You ‘own’ your home, but if you don’t pay the lender, you don’t get to keep the home. Musk paid for the election. Musk owns Trump. Simple as that.”
Conservative House Republicans have voted down a continuing resolution that Musk and Trump criticized as full of pork projects. Moore and Pocan said that vote is endangering both the federal government, and federal workers.
“Let's be very clear: If the government shuts and military families go without pay, it will be because a foreign billionaire who got his $$$ start from his daddy's emerald mines bought the Republican Party,” Moore added on Twitter.
Wisconsin’s Democratic U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin also took a swipe at Musk over the potential government shutdown.
“Government shutdowns may not be bad for billionaires, but they crush working families. Men & women in uniform won’t be paid. Law enforcement could be taken off the beat. Help for hungry families cut off,” Baldwin added on Twitter. “Stop the Washington games, compromise is the only path.”
Musk spent most of Friday posting frequent updates on his Twitter feed, including support for plans to find a solution to avoid a federal shutdown. He also, once again, made his point that the federal government is looking to spend too much on too many things.
House Republicans are said to be working on a number of different plans to keep the government going. That could mean more votes either later on Friday, or early Saturday.
