Josh Kaul Files EV Funding Lawsuit
Another day, another lawsuit against the Trump Administration.
Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul on Thursday announced that he’s joined a lawsuit over EV money that President Trump canceled earlier this year.
“In this attempt to undo progress, the Trump administration is again flouting the law—in this case, part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law,” Kaul said in a statement. “The president can’t cancel part of a law by fiat.”
The lawsuit names both President Trump and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. Duffy is, of course, the former Congressman from the northwoods.
“If the order is not blocked, Wisconsin’s efforts to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure will be delayed or canceled, threatening jobs and economic activity in the state. This could impact Wisconsin businesses that hold grant awards to build electric vehicle charging stations at locations such as gas stations, restaurants, and hotels,” Kaul’s office added in the statement. “Funding reductions could also impact months of planning and stall progress in reducing pollution, supporting clean energy, and making electric vehicles a more practical option for drivers across the state.”
Wisconsin was in-line for $62.65 million in electric vehicle funding “to help build a network of electric vehicle charging stations along major highways and in Wisconsin communities.”
Wisconsin has more than 500 EV charges currently across the state. Gov. Evers said back in January that he planned to use the $62 million in federal dollars to expand that network out. Kwik Trip was to be one of the major beneficiaries of the expansion, the company already announced plans for charges in Ashland, Menomonie and Chippewa Falls.
Kaul is joining the attorneys general in Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Hawai’i, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Mexico, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington, Vermont, and the District of Columbia in the lawsuit.
