WILL Requests Probe into WI Voter Rolls
There’s now a request for the federal government to come-in and take a look at Wisconsin’s voter rolls.
The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty last week sent a letter to the Department of Justice, asking for a review.
We have read your June 17, 2025, request for information to the Wisconsin Elections Commission (“WEC”) related to HAVA compliance and WEC’s July 2, 2025, response," the letter begins. "We are sending you this letter to suggest some areas for potential follow-up questions that you might consider sending to WEC."
WILL then lays out four red flags it’d like to see the Justice Department follow-up on, including:
“WILL has monitored WEC’s administration of our elections and taken action to correct problems. Whether it’s WEC’s failure to properly maintain the statewide voter registration list, the use of drop boxes, the use of an unlawful voter registration form, the use of mobile voting vans, we have seen a troubling pattern with how WEC administers elections – sometimes outside the scope of state and federal law,” WILL’s Lucas Vebber said. “We hope our message to the USDOJ will help bring much-needed attention to this important issue.”
WILL’s letter points out that the Wisconsin Elections Commission didn’t answer some of the DOJ’s most basic questions, including a question about non-citizens who may be on the voter rolls.
WILL also said WEC failed to fully explain how some people are allowed to register to vote despite not being in the DMV’s database.
WILL also asked a few questions of its own in its letter.
“What steps has WEC taken to determine how many, if any, noncitizens are registered to vote?” the letter asks. “And, has WEC ever coordinated the statewide voter registration list with the DOT database, or any other state agency’s database of non-citizens?”
