Vice President Vance Visiting Milwaukee
Vice President JD Vance will be using Milwaukee as the backdrop for the White House’s focus on fraud.
Vance will be in Milwaukee on Wednesday for a speech on public benefit fraud. And state Sen. Chris Kapenga, R-Delafield, said there is plenty of fraud to find in Wisconsin.
“Massive fraud in government programs is finally being exposed. The Vice President will be here Wednesday to talk about this taxpayer theft,” Kapenga said on X on Tuesday.
Vance’s visit and speech also come about two weeks after federal prosecutors in Milwaukee announced another set of charges in a Milwaukee-based scheme to steal millions of dollars from Medicaid.
“The U.S. Attorney's Office…announced charges against 37-year-old Jasmine Cooper for her role in the scheme that centered around a Milwaukee prenatal service company. “Programs like the prenatal care coordination program are designed to provide much needed assistance to some of our most vulnerable neighbors,” First Assistant U.S. Attorney Brad D. Schimel said. “When individuals defraud these programs, they are not only stealing money from taxpayers, but they are also depriving services to women and children who truly need them."
Wisconsin is also at the center of a legal fight over public benefit fraud. Gov. Tony Evers has refused to share the state’s Medicaid and food stamp rolls.
The governor said he doesn’t want the Trump Administration to have access to private information like names and social security numbers of the people enrolled in the programs.
The White House has said it needs that information to verify that people on food stamps or enrolled in Medicaid exist, are American citizens, and eligible to receive benefits.
Vance’s office has not shared what he will say during his Milwaukee visit.
After his stop in Milwaukee, Vance is expected to attend a fundraiser for Republican candidates in the state.
