Midterm Convention a Chance to Tout Republican Wins
Western Wisconsin’s Republican congressman says the Midterm Convention is a chance to remind Republicans that President Trump has delivered on his promises from two years ago.
Congressman Derrick Van Orden will speak at Thursday night’s convention, and said his message is simple.
“I hope that the mainstream media, for the first time in a very long time, actually reports what Republicans have been doing for the past couple of years,” Van Orden said during an interview on News Talk 1130 WISN. “We have achieved some of the most remarkable things.”
Van Orden said he will be speaking about how the Trump Administration has opened access, and helped cover more of the costs for healthcare in places like western Wisconsin.
“Our Rural Healthcare Infrastructure Revitalization Fund. That’s $50 billion for rural healthcare, including $203 million for the state of Wisconsin alone for the next five years,” Van Orden explained. “I’m also going to be talking about the fact that we were able to move the Medicaid reimbursement rate from 1.8% to 6%, which is saving our rural hospitals. These are real, big-ticket items.”
Van Orden said many voters have forgotten the successes of President Trump’s first year, or they have forgotten those successes because gas prices are hovering around $4 per gallon.
“You know, gas is too high right now. We want it lower than it is right now, but it was at $5 a-gallon under [President] Biden. It’s still $1 a-gallon less than it was under Biden,” Van Orden said. “We have stat after stat that shows how prices are going back down.”
Republican leaders have said they hope to use the midterm convention to energize the Republican base before the November election.
President Trump is scheduled to speak both nights of the convention in Dallas.
