Tiffany on Mother's Day
Mother’s Day became a part of the race for governor in Wisconsin.
Republican candidate Tim Tiffany took to X over the weekend, not just to wish moms a happy Mother’s Day, but to make it clear that Mother’s Day is for moms.
"@GovEvers tried to replace mother with 'inseminated person' in the state budget.@saraforwi introduced a bill to replace mother with 'person who gave birth' in Wisconsin law. @FrancescaHongWI calls moms 'birthing bodies'" Tiffany wrote on Sunday. "@TomTiffanyWI knows moms are moms."
Gov. Tony Evers made national headlines in February of last year when he proposed language changes in a state law that deals with parenthood.
The governor’s office claimed the gender-neutral language was necessary because of potential confusion about two women who have a baby, and which one would be the biological mom versus the other mom.
Evers, however, abandoned that language for Mother’s Day this year.
“To all the moms and mother figures across Wisconsin, and of course, to my partner in parenting and pickleball, Kathy, happy Mother's Day!” Evers said in a post on X. “Today, we celebrate you and all you do to keep our families, our communities, and our state running.”
That, of course, brought some mockery.
"What you meant to say is Happy Inseminated Persons Day. Worst Governor Evers," the Republican Party of Calumet County responded on X.
"I can promise you, moms in Wisconsin are not wondering each day if we’re being called birthing bodies or inseminated persons by leftist politicians," Megan Novak with AFP Wisconsin added. "We’ve got a lot going on and deserve policies that help our families thrive."
"Wisconsin families are tired of politicians replacing common sense with woke nonsense," Tiffany added.
