Marquette: Gubernatorial Race Tightens
The latest poll in Wisconsin’s race for governor is good news for Republican Tom Tiffany.
Marquette University Law School released its latest poll Wednesday, and it shows that Tom Tiffany has narrowed the gap in the race against Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley.
Crowley now leads the race 49-46, with 5% of voters undecided, and a 4.8% margin of error among likely voters.
In other words, the race for governor is essentially tied.
Crowley had a five-point lead in Marquette’s poll back in August.
Pollsters said the race is also essentially tied among voters who picked a political party.
The poll shows that 95% of Republicans are backing Tiffany and 96% of Democrats are backing Crowley. Crowley, however, continues to have a lead among independent voters. The poll shows 44% of independents support him while just 18% support Tiffany. But a large number of independents, some 38%, are undecided.
One of the biggest changes in the new poll is Crowley's favorability rating. Pollsters say more people now see Crowley in a negative light.
"31% have a favorable view of Crowley, 44% an unfavorable view. Unfavorable views of Crowley increased 15 points from August to September, while his favorable rating declined by two points. Those who hadn’t heard enough about him declined by 13 points, from 38% to 25%," pollsters noted.
Tiffany's favorability rating remained largely unchanged from the August poll.
Opinion of Tiffany changed much less, with a 3 point increase in unfavorable opinion and no change in his favorables. Tiffany is viewed favorably by 39% and unfavorably by 45%," the poll states.
The Marquette Law School Poll was conducted Sept. 16-23, 2026, interviewing 843 Wisconsin registered voters, with a margin of error of +/-4.3 percentage points. For likely voters, the sample size is 692 with a margin of error of +/-4.8 percentage points.
