Tom Tiffany Calls for Audit
Green Bay’s latest ballot mistake is now an issue in Wisconsin’s race for governor.
Republican candidate Tom Tiffany on Monday said voters need to know why Green Bay’s clerk once again sent some voters two ballots.
Green Bay has once AGAIN sent duplicate absentee ballots, and it’s unknown how many were mailed. This comes after more than 150 duplicates were mailed during the April election," Tiffany wrote. "We need a full audit and accountability. Voters deserve confidence in our elections."
Green Bay’s clerk, Celestine Jefferys, said over the weekend that her office mails some voters two ballots for next month’s primary election.
Voters in eight Green Bay wards were sent two ballots, but no one is saying how many extra ballots went out.
Green Bay said the clerk’s office mailed nearly 5,000 ballots for next month’s election, but the city is not saying how many of those were duplicates.
It’s largely the same story from Green Bay as the April election.
The clerk’s office mailed-out over 150 duplicate ballots in that election as well.
The clerk blamed a mailing label error for that mistake.
Tiffany said he wants a “full investigation with real accountability.”
The Wisconsin Republican Party on Monday also asked for a full investigation. The GOP filed a formal complaint with the Wisconsin Elections Commission.
City leaders in Green Bay said they’ve told voters who received a second ballot to destroy one. The clerk’s office said only one ballot per-voter will be counted.
