State Rep. Questions Timing of Wisconsin Election Readiness Report

“I find this last minute, 64-page report ridiculous,” Rep. Janel Brandtjen said Tuesday. “How silly is it that the report was suddenly posted online after Wolfe has been unable to appear before the legislature for over two years?”

Wisconsin’s election managers insist they are ready for the November election, but one state lawmaker says she has some questions.

The Wisconsin Elections Commission on Monday released its report titled How Wisconsin is Ready for the November 2024 Election.

“The Wisconsin Elections Commission and local election officials have been preparing for this key moment since the day after the 2020 General Election, while simultaneously planning for and administering every local and state election in the interim,” the report begins,

The report goes on to detail how the Elections Commission has trained local election clerks, adopted a new set of security measures, and has checked and double-checked Wisconsin voter rolls.

“In preparation for the 2024 General Election, WEC staff actively monitor 44 different data quality checks that cover various aspects affecting the accuracy of records in the WisVote system,” the report notes.

Elections Administrator Meagan Wolfe said the idea is to give Wisconsin voters faith in the state’s electoral system.

“We started those preparations four years ago, and we’re proud of what we have accomplished in laying the groundwork for a safe, secure, and accurate election in November.”

But state Rep. Janel Brandtjen, R-Menomonee Falls, said Wolfe’s assurances fall largely on deaf ears.

“I find this last minute, 64-page report ridiculous,” Brandtjen said Tuesday. “How silly is it that the report was suddenly posted online after Wolfe has been unable to appear before the legislature for over two years?”

Brandtjen has been a frequent and loud critic of Wolfe since the 2020 election.

She led one of the two investigations into Wolfe, the Wisconsin Elections Commission, and the 2020 election.

Brandtjen has called for Wolfe to be fired, and said Wolfe is responsible for any questions that voters have about Wisconsin’s electoral system.

“Wolfe has been completely unaccountable to the citizens she supposedly serves,” Brandtjen added. “If people want clarity in our elections, I would highly encourage people to make plans to vote. Participating in an election that's too big to rig.”

The WEC report predicts that nearly three million people will vote in Wisconsin in November.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 5.
