Wisconsin’s senior U.S. senator says President Trump’s deal to end the war in Iran is a dose of reality.
Sen. Ron Johnson said the deal to end the war that will both end the shooting and reopen the Strait of Hormuz is a recognition of the reality in the region.
‘“We’re not going to achieve unilateral surrender here. But I never thought this would be easy,” Johnson said during an interview on News Talk 1130 WISN. “President Trump knew that the American people didn’t want to send American sons and daughters into Iran in a ground war. He tried to accomplish what he could accomplish by air, and by the way, he accomplished a lot.”
Johnson said he’s "disappointed" by the “coverage and commentary” on the war. He’s also disappointed in how Democrats in Congress have handled their opposition.
“I found it interesting how many resolutions Democrats brought up in front of the Senate to restrain President Trump's War Powers,” Johnson explained. “It’s unnecessary. The American people who restrain any present ability to wage war.”
Johnson said Democrats on Capitol Hill seemed to be cheerleading against the president.
There are questions about what the deal does, and there are some critics who say Iran has not surrendered or made any promises not to attack the US or our allies in the Middle East.
“We’ll see how this goes,” Johnson added. “We can always go back in there. If they make a move and turn on those nuclear sites, we can bomb them again. I don’t know how this works out, but I have always been cheering for President Trump’s success."
