Schimel: Elon Musk Understands Stakes of Wisconsin Supreme Court Race

Elon Musk thrusts Schimel’s race into the national conversation by tweeting about it earlier in the day.

Musk Brings Attention to WI Supreme Court Race

Brad Schimel says Wisconsin’s supreme court race is now on the national stage because the stakes couldn’t be any higher.

Schimel on Thursday said Elon Musk understands why it is important to return the Wisconsin court to a conservative majority.

“Elon Musk highlighted a critical issue in this race: election integrity,” Schimel explained after Musk tweeted about the race. “Wisconsin’s voter ID law is under serious threat — Susan Crawford is the attorney who tried to eliminate the law and called it ‘draconian.’ If she wins, can we really expect the law to survive?”

Musk thrust Schimel’s race into the national conversation by tweeting about it earlier in the day.

"Very important to vote Republican for the Wisconsin Supreme Court to prevent voting fraud!" Musk said online.

“The implications of this race extend across the country,” Schimel added.

Voter integrity will be one of the central issues of Schimel’s race against liberal Dane County Judge Susan Crawford.

As a lawyer, she fought against Wisconsin’s voter ID law. And adding Crawford to the court would guarantee a liberal majority for years to come.

Progressive activists have asked the Wisconsin Supreme Court to take another look at the state’s voter ID law with a hope toward overturning it.

Musk did not endorse Schimel, nor did he say anything about possibly donating to his campaign.

Musk, however, has made several million-dollar donations to candidates or causes over the past few years.

Politicos in Wisconsin expect Schimel’s race against Crawford to, perhaps, be the most expensive judicial race ever.

The last Wisconsin Supreme Court race, in 2023, saw more than $50 million in total spending. Some say this April’s race between Schimel and Crawford could see close to $100 million in spending.

Earlier this month Schimel reported raising $1.5 million in the last six months of 2024. That took his total haul for his race for the court to over $2.2 million so far Crawford reported raising $2.8 million last year.

Schimel also reported a $1.1 million ad buy in most of Wisconsin’s TV markets. Crawford launched two new TV ads this week, but her campaign did not say just how much she is spending.
