Republicans Continue to Criticize Democrat Candidate Shifts in Governor's Race

While Democrats are putting the best face on David Crowley’s return to the governor’s race, Republicans continue to talk about chaos and a rigged primary.

David Crowley Reenters Race After Evers' Endorsement

While Democrats are putting the best face on David Crowley’s return to the governor’s race, Republicans continue to talk about chaos and a rigged primary.

Crowley re-entered the Democrat race for governor over the weekend. He dropped out back on July 8th, but re-launched his campaign after Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez dropped-out on Friday following her fundraising scandal.

Crowley told supporters that he is in the race to win.

“Now it's time for Democrats; we need to make our choice,” Crowley said.

He also denied that he is running again, and picked-up Gov. Tony Evers’ endorsement, because he is the establishment choice.

"I’m not a handpicked candidate," Crowley said during a weekend interview. "I am focused on making sure we can win this race in November.”

But Republican candidate Tom Tiffany said the evidence doesn’t support Crowley’s claim.

“In a bid to block the socialist who wants to abolish the police and prisons, Democrats have handpicked David Crowley,” Tiffany wrote on X. “This is the same David Crowley who was just as asleep at the wheel over Milwaukee County’s health care contract as Sara Rodriguez was over her campaign finances.”

The Republican Governors Association also slammed Crowley's return.

“Watching Wisconsin Democrats is like watching a clown car crash into a parked semi-truck. From financial scandals to re-launching failed campaigns, these Democrats shouldn’t be in charge of a lemonade stand, let alone the state of Wisconsin,” RGA Communications Director Kollin Crompton said in a statement. “The choice is clear for Wisconsinites: commonsense versus crazy."

Hong didn’t have any cross words for Crowley, or even Gov. Evers after he endorsed Crowley. But she did say that Democrat voters should ultimately be the ones to pick the Democrat candidate.

“We want to make sure that this is an election where the voters decide,” Hong said in an interview on UpFront.
