Northwoods Congressman Questions Gwen Moore’s ICE-evasion Advice

“Why are Democrats aiding and abetting criminals?” Tom Tiffany.

Gwen Moore's ICE Advice for Immigrants

There are questions about the recent advice from one of Wisconsin’s Democratic members of Congress.

Milwaukee Congresswoman Gwen Moore last week posted an explainer on Twitter, issued an official statement, and sent-out a newsletter to anyone who has been or may be detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“You do NOT have to reveal your immigration status and have the right to remain silent,” is the first piece of advice that Moore offered.

“IF ICE AGENTS COME TO YOUR HOME: You do NOT have to open the door. Ask to see a search warrant through the window or for it to be slipped under the door. It must be signed by a judge and have your name on it,” the second piece of advice states. “A deportation warrant is NOT the same as a search warrant and does NOT authorize ICE agents to enter your home without permission.”

Moore said on Twitter that she shared the advice after rumors swept through Milwaukee that ICE agents detained a family from Puerto Rico.

“I’m aware of reports of the illegal detainment of American citizens by ICE in Milwaukee,” she wrote. “This is what Trump wants — to sow fear amongst communities who have certain names, certain complexions or speak certain languages.”

No one has yet confirmed the viral reports of ICE agents detaining a Pureto Rucan family, but Moore shared her advice for all immigrants regardless.

“You have the right to refuse ICE permission to enter your home if agents do not present a valid warrant. If ICE agents enter without a valid warrant, ask for the agents' names and badge numbers,” her primer on immigrant rights explained. “You have the right to speak to a lawyer immediately. You or your family can call your congress member to help connect you to legal services. [And] you have the right to remain silent and refuse to sign any documents without advice from an attorney.”

Northwoods Republican Congressman Tom Tiffany is one of many in Wisconsin who asked on Tuesday just what Moore is doing.

“[A] Wisconsin Congresswoman [sent] an email newsletter out, giving advice to illegal aliens on how to avoid arrest,” he said on Twitter. “Why are Democrats aiding and abetting criminals?”

Tiffany has been one of Wisocnsin’s loudest voices on immigration on Capitol Hill.

He said four years of President Biden turned every city in America into a border city, and made immigration an issue for every state.

Tiffany on Monday also applauded President Trump for deporting hundreds of illegal immigrant criminals so far.

“Criminal illegal aliens DEPORTED,” he said. “And it’s only the start of week 3.”
