Milwaukee County Supervisor Presses for New Gun Control After Abundant Life Shooting

County Supervisor Calls for Gun Control

One of Milwaukee county’s leaders is pressing for new gun control laws after the shooting at Madison’s Christian school.

County Supervisor Kathleen Vincent on Thursday made her pitch for new gun laws during the county board's December meeting.

“Classrooms must be spaces where students feel safe to learn, explore, and thrive—not places of fear,” she said. “This heartbreaking incident is yet another reminder that we must take bold, decisive steps to prevent gun violence and ensure our children’s safety. The time for meaningful gun reform is now.”

Vincent is not saying just which new laws she wants, or which law would have prevented the shooting at the Abundant Life Christian School that left a teacher and a student dead, and six others wounded.

She did say local, state, and even federal lawmakers should do something "to strengthen regulations, close loopholes, and implement comprehensive measures to prevent future tragedies."

She also talked about "the importance of creating a secure environment for students to reach their full potential."

“Our youth are resilient and steadfast in their determination to create a brighter future. Their courage and passion inspire us all to take meaningful action and build a community where every child feels safe, valued, and supported as they grow.”

Madison Police and the FBI continue to investigate the shooting.

On Thursday, Madison's police chief said the two guns the teenage gunman had on her were legally purchased. He's not saying who she got a hold of.

There's also an investigation into a TikTok account that may have belonged to the alleged shooter, Natalie Rupnow.

The Anti Defamation League discovered that TikTok account this week, and said it was full of violent imagery.

Democrats in Madison have also called for new gun control measures after the shooting, but they too have been rather vague about just what they want done.

President Biden issued a similar message about gun control on the day of the shooting. But his call as well didn't come with any specific suggestions for how future school shootings can be avoided.
