Gov. Evers: "I’ve Never Encouraged or Directed Anyone to Break any Laws”

Homan told reporters in Washington, D.C. on Thursday that the Trump Administration is not playing around.

Evers says Memo is 'Legal Advice' not Instructions

Wisconsin’s governor continues to be defiant in his take on ICE and state workers.

Gov. Tony Evers on Friday released a three minute video (watch below), where he responded to the comments from Border Czar Tom Homan, in which Homan suggested he’d arrest anyone who obstructs ICE agents who are looking for illegal immigrants.

“I haven't broken the law. I haven't committed a crime. And I've never encouraged or directed anyone to break any laws, or commit any crimes,” Evers said. “President Trump's hand-picked appointee Tom Homan was asked about me, and this guy, after he apparently threatened to arrest elected officials across the country, said ‘Wait to see what's coming.’”

The governor said “Republicans and their right-wing allies” have lied about his memo to state employees that directs them not to cooperate with ICE agents if they come to state offices.

“Do not answer questions, including when an agent asks about someone you know or presents a warrant with an individual name,” the governor’s memo stated.

Homan told reporters in Washington, D.C. on Thursday that the Trump Administration is not playing around.

“You cannot support what we're doing. And you can support sanctuary cities, if that's what you want to do,” Homan said. “[But] if you cross that line of impediment, or knowingly harboring and concealing, that is a felony. And it will be treated as such.”

“Threats like this should be a concern to every Wisconsinite, and every American who cares about the values held here,” Evers added.

The governor previously said he sent his memo to state employees to serve as ‘legal advice’ in case ICE showed-up in a state office. He did not repeat that line on Friday.
