"We have a good system"
Wisconsin’s governor is making it clear that he doesn’t want federal investigators to look at Wisconsin’s voter rolls or election operations.
The governor told reporters on Wednesday that he wants the Department of Homeland Security to “stay out” of Wisconsin.
“It’s a joke,” Evers said. “I think it’s another thing that Trump is doing to make it look like there’s all sorts of problems that are not problems in Wisconsin. And frankly, he needs to stay out of it because voting is a state issue and not a federal issue.”
The Trump Administration confirmed this week that it is looking into states where non-citizens could be voting.
A review of Wisconsin’s voter fraud cases found just one non-citizen voting in the state between 1982 and 2025. Urban Milwaukee reported that a man from Chippewa Falls cast an illegal vote in the 2016 primary. He was charged, and later pleaded no contest.
But Wisconsin Republicans welcome the investigation from Homeland Security.
"Good. A single non-citizen voting in our elections discounts the vote of an American citizen," Green Bay-area Republican Congressman Tony Wied said in a post on X.
“One of the best things to do would be for all of these Democrat-controlled states to release their voter rolls, so we can actually look,” western Wisconsin Republican Congressman Derrick Van Orden said “Trust, but verify.”
Evers has previously refused to share Wisconsin’s voter rolls with the Trump Administration.
Gov. Evers doubled-down on Tuesday.
"We have a good system. People are used to it. And so the idea that Trump is essentially trying to put a cloud over our work is just absolutely ridiculous. So I don't even think twice about it, frankly. We have a good system," the governor added.
