Primary Election Day Offers Few Choices
It is Election Day in Wisconsin, but most people won’t vote.
Tuesday is the primary for April’s election. Voter turnout is expected to be as low as the single digits.
One of the biggest drivers is that many, if not most, voters in Wisconsin don’t have anyone to vote for.
There are zero statewide races on the ballot Tuesday.
Voters will pick a new justice for the Wisconsin Supreme Court in April, but there are only two candidates for the race. So there is no need for a primary.
There are also no statewide ballot questions.
That leaves local races. Some voters, in some communities, will narrow the field for local school boards, or town or county boards.
Local officials say they expect to see local turnouts somewhere between 8% and 10%.
Voters can find out if they have any candidates to vote for, and where their voting locations are, at Wisconsin’s voter hub, myvote.wi.gov, or by contacting their local clerk.
If there is an election in a community, polls will be open from 7AM til 8PM on Tuesday.
