Steil on the Goal of the Republican Convention
Bryan Steil is headed to Dallas for the Republican’s midterm convention, and says he has a very simple game plan.
“This is President Trump and the Republican Party coming in and saying ‘Let’s draw attention to the policies that are working to drive this country forward,” Steil said during an interview Thursday on News Talk 1130 WISN. “We have to explain to people the success that we’ve had in securing the US-Mexico border. I think we’ve been so successful that people almost forget the progress that we made. About the tax cuts that we [made]. About the Medicaid fraud that we’ve exposed.”
Steil said the focus of the midterm convention needs to be the opposite of the focus from the national media that voters have been subjected to for months.
“We have a big opportunity to force that corporate/legacy media to look at what policies we have accomplished, the promises that were made in the election, the successes that we’ve had,” Steil explained. “And then also, have the true conversation about the additional work that needs to be done on the backside of this election, so we can continue making progress for this country.”
Steil, however, will be one of just two Wisconsin congressmen at the convention. Steil and Congressman Glen Grothman are the only two Republican members of Congress in the state who have confirmed they will be in Dallas.
Republicans will gather in Dallas next Wednesday and Thursday for their first-ever midterm convention. The party and the president are calling the convention an opportunity “to unify the party and boost voter enthusiasm ahead of the November midterm elections.”
