Bangstad Still Working For Ballot Access
Kirk Bangstad says he’s not out of Wisconsin’s race for governor yet.
Bangstad took to Facebook on Tuesday to declare that he is “not dead yet” after the Wisconsin Elections Commission found that he doesn’t have enough valid signatures to make the ballot.
"Hot off the presses! Bangstad is NOT DEAD YET!" he wrote.
Bangstad on Monday said he submitted 2,200 signatures to make the Democrat ballot in the August primary. All candidates need 2,000 valid signatures.
The Elections Commission on Tuesday said nearly 500 of Bangstad’s signatures were not valid.
Bangstad said he has time to fix those signatures.
“Once again, terrible reporting by legacy media, including Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and @wispolitics, announcing that Bangstad was off the ballot before he was allowed to fix the mistakes he made,” he added on Facebook.
Bangstad has had paperwork problems since the beginning of his campaign for governor. Originally he had the wrong address on his nomination forms, then he used the wrong election date.
The Elections Commission didn’t specify the problems with each of Bangstad’s invalid signatures, but WEC said in some cases entire pages were ruled invalid.
Bangstad now has til Sunday to correct his signature mistakes.
Voters will narrow the Democrat field in the April primary, and of course voters will choose a new governor in November.
Tom Tiffany is the only Republican in the race. He did not report any problems with his campaign signatures this week.
