Evers's Dairy Grants Under Scrutiny
There are more concerns about how Gov. Evers’ Administration has handed-out millions of dollars in state and federal money.
The Legislative Audit Bureau this week delivered a new audit on the Dairy Processor Grant and Meat Processor Infrastructure Grant programs. And like past state grant audits, the LAB found sloppiness.
"DATCP’s grant policies and procedures indicated that grant determinations were based on grant scoring criteria as well as grant proposal score ranks, comments, and knowledge from grant proposal reviewers. We found that DATCP did not sufficiently document its justifications for the amounts it awarded," auditors wrote. "DATCP is required...to evaluate grant proposals and announce grants within 90 days of the deadline to submit grant proposals as identified within the request for grant proposals. We found that DATCP did not announce grants within 90 days for five of its past six dairy processor grant rounds and for three of its past four meat processor infrastructure grant rounds."
Sen. Eric Wimberger, R-Oconto, and Rep. Bob Wittke, R-Caledonia, said it is important to keep a close eye on how the Evers Administration hands-out money, because there have been problems in the past.
“Certifying that the Dairy and Meat Processor Grant Programs are in line with their intended purposes is critical to industry investments for dairy producers and meat processors in Wisconsin,” the two said in a statement.
Auditors, however, found that there are several instances where the grant process for the program was not in line. Including:
