Wisconsin Right to Life's Plan for 2026
Wisconsin Right to Life is looking ahead in the continued fight over abortion.
Wisconsin Right to Life on Thursday remembered the 53rd anniversary of the Roe vs Wade decision with a pledge to continue to push for fewer abortions.
“Today we celebrate Roe being sent to the ash heap of history. But this moment is not a finish line; it is a call to action. Wisconsin Right to Life is stepping up to meet this moment by continuing our efforts to change hearts and minds to favor life, and to support mothers and their children through pregnancy and beyond," Wisconsin Right to Life Executive Director Heather Weininger said in a statement.
Roe, which the US Supreme Court handed down in 1973, was struck down with the Dobbs decision in 2022. That decision pushed the question about legal abortions, and regulated abortions back to the states.
Since then, pro-abortion forces in Wisconsin have seen a string of successes.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court last year struck down the state's 1849 abortion law that banned almost all abortions. The liberal-majority court said that law was "obsolete," and didn't fit with the modern understanding of abortion.
That leaves Wisconsin with a 20-week abortion law, though that could change as well. There is currently an effort to get the same liberal-majority court to declare a right to abortion in Wisconsin.
Weininger said that is why Wisconsin Right to Life is as important now as ever.
“Wisconsin Right to Life has not wavered in 57 years,” Weininger added. “And we will remain unwavering no matter what challenges may come, for the sake of the women we serve and unborn children we protect.”
