Wisconsin Members of Congress Celebrate, Skip Trump’s Second Inaugural

Wisconsin Democrats Skip Trump's Inauguration

Wisconsin’s members of Congress who were in Washington for President Trump’s second inaugural celebrated the day.

Wisconsin’s Republicans on Capitol Hill all called Monday’s inauguration a great day, and a reason to celebrate.

“Today we begin America's new golden age. We will secure our border, lower costs for families, unleash American energy, and always put AMERICA FIRST!" Green Bay Republican Tony Wied said on Twitter. "I am honored to be a part of this monumental day and I look forward to working with President Trump to Make America Great Again!"

Southern Wisconsin Congressman Bryan Steil was one of the members of Congress who had a seat inside the Capitol Rotunda Monday morning.

“Welcome back President Trump! I look forward to working together to secure our border, lower costs for Wisconsin families, and unleash American energy.,” Steil added on his Twitter.

Western Wisconsin Congressman Derrick Van Orden was short, and to the point.

“What a day!” Van Orden said in a pair of posts. “America is Back!”

Northwoods Congressman Tom Tiffany was also at the Capitol for Trump's oath and speech.

"Today is a historic moment for all Americans as we witness President Trump take the oath of office. This day marks the beginning of a new era, one grounded in the promise to put American citizens first. Together, we will strengthen our borders, revitalize our economy, and restore America’s strength on the world stage," Tiffany said.

Neither of Wisconsin’s Democratic members of Congress were at the inauguration, In fact, neither Gwen Moore or Mark Pocan were in Washington, D.C.

Instead they both stayed in Wisconsin for local days of service.

“Today as we celebrate his legacy, I am holding the timeless words of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr close,” Moore said on Twitter.

Though she did say Thank you, Joe,” as her only inaugural reference.

“Instead of attending the inauguration, I will be spending the day in Madison to take part in community service events for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and meeting with folks who may be targeted during the Trump presidency,” Pocan added on his Twitter feed.

Trump used his second inaugural speech to declare a new “Golden Age” for America, and promised that he would focus on American citizens first.

“From this moment on, America’s decline is over,” he told the crowd at the Capitol.

Trump wasted no time after the speech. He immediately went to the White House to deal with a sting of first-day executive orders, including an order to close the southern border, and another one to declare an energy emergency in the country.
