WILL Puts Forward Plan to Secure Elections
There are new calls to secure Wisconsin’s next election.
The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty on Monday released what it is calling a Roadmap to Enforce Wisconsin’s Citizenship Voting Amendment.
"These steps are designed to identify and remove any ineligible voters while incorporating multiple safeguards to prevent potential errors,” WILL said in its announcement.
There are five steps in the ‘roadmap’:
“Last November, 71% of Wisconsin voters approved a constitutional amendment making clear that only U.S. citizens may vote in our elections. Now it’s incumbent on state leaders to follow through and enforce it,” WILL’s Will Flanders said in a statement. “Our plan gives policymakers a practical, common-sense roadmap to ensure the will of the voters is respected and Wisconsin’s elections remain secure.”
WILL said Iowa recently did a non-citizen audit of its voter rolls, and found just under three-dozen people who should not have voted.
"Before the 2024 election, the State of Iowa conducted an audit of its voter rolls and identified 277 confirmed non-citizens—35 of whom cast ballots," WILL added. "If Wisconsin’s numbers are similar, that could translate to hundreds of unlawful registrations and dozens of unlawful votes."
The Wisconsin Elections Commission says there are more than five million people on the state’s voter rolls, though nearly two million of those people are not active voters. Wisconsin will deactivate people who don’t vote for four years, but the state never removes their names from the rolls.
WILL said Gov. Tony Evers owes it to the people of the state to make sure only those who are allowed to vote, actually get to vote.
