Stroebel Accuses Democratic Opponent of “Blatant Lie” About IVF, Abortion Votes

Republican Sen. Duey Stroebel (R-Cedarburg) has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Jodi Habush Sinykin campaign over one of their campaign ads.

Lawyers are now involved in one of the races for the Wisconsin State Senate.

Republican Sen. Duey Stroebel (R-Cedarburg) has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Jodi Habush Sinykin campaign over one of their campaign ads.

“I’m normally a pretty mild-mannered guy, but I'll tell you this really has me going,” Stroebel said during an interview on News Talk 1130 WISN Thursday. Jodi Habush Sinykin is running a television ad with a blatant lie regarding me saying I voted against in vitro fertilization, IVF.”

The ad, which calls Stroebel extreme, says he voted against IVF and other forms of contraception. Stroebel said the legislation at the heart of the ad is from years ago and said he’s the one who made sure it didn’t go anywhere at the Wisconsin Capitol.

“I've always supported access to IVF, and I continue to support access to IVF,” Stroebel explained. “The irony of this is this bill that they're saying I voted for was assigned to my committee, and I killed this bill. It never got a hearing in my committee.”

Habush Sinykin’s campaign said it stands by the ad and stands by the message about Stroebel’s stance on abortion.

“He was the coauthor of a proposed constitutional amendment that would ban IVF and forms of contraception. And he voted to uphold the 1849 abortion ban that would further inhibit access to IVF and forms of contraception for women across Wisconsin. Just like other career politicians, Duey is trying to say one thing and do another. But not on our watch,” Habush Sinykin campaign manager Robby Abrahamian said.

“I support access to IVF. I support contraception. And they talk all day about abortion too, and I'm on the bill that says look abortion is too important for politicians to decide post-Roe. Let's let the people decide, let's have a referendum and find out where this really should be,” Stroebel said. “Well of course Tony Evers, before that bill hardly even got traction, said ‘I will veto that, right out of the blocks,’ because he's the king he doesn't care what people think.”

Stroebel said while he is pro-life, he thinks the vast majority of people in Wisconsin don’t want to see late term abortion legalized either.

Stroebel said the Habush Sinykin campaign has acknowledged that it received his cease-and-desist letter, but has essentially ignored it.
