Congressman Steil Introduces Election Reform
One of Wisconsin’s members of Congress is pushing a plan to standardize some parts of this country’s election laws.
Republican Congressman Bryan Steil on Thursday introduced what he calls the Make Elections Great Again Act.
Style said his proposal will create "baseline requirements in place for state election administration."
Americans should be confident their elections are being run with integrity - including commonsense voter ID requirements, clean voter rolls, and citizenship verification," Steil said in a statement. "These reforms will improve voter confidence, bolster election integrity, and make it easy to vote, but hard to cheat."

Because states are in charge of their own elections, Steil’s plan would only apply to federal ballots. State and local elections would continue to be regulated by individual states.
Wisconsin already has a voter ID requirement, as well as a state law that says only citizens can vote. However, local election managers and local poll workers are responsible for enforcing that law.
Wisconsin does not have a ban on ballot harvesting, ranked choice voting, or a ban on universal mail-in voting. Though lawmakers have proposed laws to ban some of those ideas in the past.
