August and Larson Clash
The second-in-command in the Wisconsin Assembly is taking a Democratic senator to task for language online.
Assembly Majority Leader Tyler August, R-Walworth, on Friday chastised Sen. Chris Larson, D-Milwaukee, after Larson took to X with a post calling Republicans at the Capitol in Madison “corrupt.”
"Gun violence is not natural. We can pass common sense, constitutional laws to keep ourselves safe and reduce gun deaths. Other states and countries have already done this," Larson wrote on his personal account Friday morning. "In fact, every other country has weighed their options and decided they don't want to live in daily terror that gun violence will upend their lives. As with all laws, no single law will solve all the problems but that doesn't mean it isn't worth trying. It starts by having citizens demand braver, less corrupt leaders."
He made that post at 10:10 Friday morning. That was just six minutes before he posted this on his official Senator Chris Larson account.
“I truly believe that most people in our country find political violence to be unacceptable. We all have our own part to play in eliminating it. Words matter. Some easy things we can all do right now to tone things down,” he wrote. “Stop using war metaphors for things that aren't actually war. Avoid dehumanizing rhetoric toward any person or group. Refuse to celebrate the suffering of others - especially rivals.”
August said Larson needs to follow his own advice.
“So here is the problem liberals don’t seem to be able to grasp. With one account Chris says "words matter" when it comes to eliminating political violence,” August wrote. “Within minutes on another account he calls leaders who have a different view on a topic ‘corrupt’.”
