DPI Candidate Brittany Kinser Collects Endorsements
Brittany Kinser continues to collect endorsements in her bid to become Wisconsin’s next state superintendent.
Last week, Kinser announced that former Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent Howard Fuller endorsed her. On Tuesday, Kinser debuted a new ad featuring Fuller.
“We need a state superintendent who supports high standards. We need a state superintendent who supports transparency. We need Brittany Kinser,” Fuller said in the ad.
On Tuesday, Kinser also added endorsements from City Forward Collective's director Colleston Morgan, and One City Schools CEO Kaleem Caire.
“The most recent Nation’s Report Card results underscored academic malaise across Wisconsin - and a continuing crisis for students in Milwaukee. Widest in the nation Black-White achievement gaps grew, while lowest-in-the-nation outcomes for Black students in Milwaukee saw further declines,” Morgan wrote. “Under Jill Underly, not only has DPI failed to acknowledge or address these critical challenges - it has actively avoided accountability for its own role in perpetuating them.”
He said Kinser’s honesty and focus on improving reading and math scores is critical to make changes at MPS.
“Brittany's vision and commitment to improving educational outcomes for all Wisconsin children stands out,” Caire said in a statement. "I am convinced she is the leader our state needs at this critical moment.”
Kinser’s growing list of endorsements from education reformers compares to Underly’s list of Democratic lawmakers, and Wisconsin’s teachers unions.
One name missing from Underly’s endorsement list, however, is Gov. Tony Evers.
The governor, who was state superintendent before Underly, has declined to endorse anyone in the race.
Voters will choose between the two on April 1.
