Kelda Roys Slams Rodriguez For Pattern of Apologies

The newest criticism of Sara Rodriguez has only a little to do with her unfolding campaign finance scandal.

Kelda Roys Questions Why Rodriguez is Always Apologizing

The newest criticism of Sara Rodriguez has only a little to do with her unfolding campaign finance scandal.

Fellow Democrat Kelda Roys, who is also running for governor, on Monday slammed Rodriguez for apologizing again.

“The public is getting far too familiar with hearing Sara Rodriguez apologize,” Roys said in a statement. “One year ago, Rodriguez launched her campaign claiming Gov. Evers gave her a special heads-up that he was not running for re-election. We soon learned from Gov. Evers that her claim was false. ”

Rodriguez on Monday apologized for what she called filing “inaccurate and incomplete campaign finance reports.”

Over the weekend, Rodriguez fired her campaign manager for those reports. On Monday, Rodriguez said that instead of the million-plus-dollars that her campaign claimed it has, she has just over $200,000 cash-on-hand.

Rodriguez said she doesn’t know exactly what happened, but is promising to look into it.

A number of other Democrat candidates slammed Rodriguez for the scandal. But Roys’ focused on the apologies.

“In the past year, we have repeatedly seen Rodriguez make unforced errors and then ask to be celebrated for apologizing. Including: saying she’d make local law enforcement carry out ICE’s administrative warrants, stating she’d write the state budget 'behind a curtain,' taking corporate PAC money from WE Energies after voting for a GOP authoring tax break for them and defending herself by saying Evers signed the bill when he actually vetoed it."

Roys is polling in the single digits in the crowded Democrat field, behind Rodriguez, and far behind frontrunners Francesca Hong and Mandela Barnes.

Rodriguez on Monday also said she is not dropping-out of the Democrat race.

“This recurring pattern [of apologies] shows that Rodriguez is unprepared for the rigors of a general election or governing,” Roys added.
