Democrat David Crowley Running for Governor
David Crowley has made it official.
Crowley, who is Milwaukee County’s executive, on Tuesday officially jumped into Wisconsin’s race for governor.
“As Governor, I’ll fight every day to make sure that everyone in our state has access to what they need to succeed: good-paying jobs, more money in their pockets, affordable health care and housing, and fully funded public schools. Together, we can build a Wisconsin that works for all of us,” Crowley said in a campaign kick-off video.
It’s not a surprise that Crowley is running. He was one of the first candidates to take a strong look at the race when Gov. Tony Evers announced that he wouldn’t run for a third term.
Crowley describes himself as "the only candidate in the race with experience both making laws and running government. He’s balanced billion-dollar budgets, cut taxes for families, reformed government, navigated crises, and delivered for nearly one million residents. He’s not just ready to lead — he’s already done it."
Crowley, however, is already facing questions about Milwaukee’s County's finances. He’s also facing questions about the tax hike he pushed through for Milwaukee County to help balance the county’s budget.
“The challenges I’ve addressed in Milwaukee County aren’t specific to one county or one political party; these are issues that communities face all across Wisconsin. I’ve balanced budgets, protected our environment, improved public safety, invested in small businesses, and made government more accessible to our residents, all while guiding us through a global pandemic,” Crowley added. “I’m running for Governor because, now more than ever, Wisconsin needs proven, experienced leadership.”
Lt. Gov Sara Rodriguez is also officially in the race to replace Gov. Evers, though there’s still some speculation that other Democrats may jump in.
