Western Wisconsin’s congressman says there is something familiar about the hurricane response from President Biden and Vice President Harris.
Congressman Derrick Van Orden on Tuesday said the Biden/Harris Administration has bungled its response to Hurricane Helene, specifically the destruction on North Carolina.
“We see this over and over and over again, where the Biden Administration doesn't do anything and then they overreact. And it just turns out to be disastrous,” Van Orden told News Talk 1130 WISN’s Jay Weber. “Look at Afghanistan, what they did with NATO that fell into Ukraine. The border right now is fascinating. Kamala Harris didn’t care about the border until it became a political issue. Now she essentially has a MAGA hat and a hammer in her hand and is building the wall herself.”
He contrasted that with how former President Trump responded to the hurricane.
“What president Trump did yesterday, showed what is missing in the Biden Administration, and that’s called leadership,” Van Orden explained. “Joe Biden sat at his desk, and wound-up screaming at a reporter saying that he was leading because he was on the phone all day. That's not leadership. Trump went down there, like you should, talked to the folks. He found-out what they need and made sure that they know that he cares about them.”
The former president stopped in Valdosta, Georgia over the weekend and brought with him a taker full of fuel.
President Biden told reporters he spent two hours on the phone on both Saturday and Sunday. Vice President Harris stopped by FEMA headquarters in Washington, D.C. and made slime remarks to reporters. Her office also released a picture of her on the phone.
Van Orden said the current White House didn’t take any real action in the states hit by Hurricane Helene, until their lack of response became a political issue.
“I hope that the American people are smart enough to look back in time, and realize this is all just for show,” VanOrden said.
He added, “I've seen this stuff on social media, ‘I can't believe Republicans are politicizing this.’. I'm old enough to remember something called Katrina, where George Bush understood that if he got down at that particular moment it would have been counterproductive. So, he flew over the devastated area, then declared a national emergency. He got everything rolling. And we’re just not seeing that from the Biden/Harris Administration.”
