Congressman Tiffany Slams Gov. Evers Over Hard Anti-deportation Stance

Tiffany said for years that because of President Biden’s immigration policies every state in the U.S. is now a border state, and every community has been impacted by illegal immigrants.

Tiffany Takes On Tony

One of Wisconsin’s Republican congressmen is doubling-down on President Trump’s plan for mass deportations and questioning why Gov. Tony Evers is not.

Northwoods Congressman Tom Tiffany penned an op-ed that ran in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Thursday that said Wisconsin’s governor should not “obstruct” the effort to deport criminal illegal immigrants from the state.

"In case you missed it last week, Gov. Tony Evers called the plan of President-elect Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, to punish local officials who don’t comply with immigration laws 'stupid talk.' He further stated, 'We’ll do whatever we can' to avoid mass deportations in Wisconsin," Tiffany wrote. "These statements ignore a harsh reality: Failing to enforce immigration laws jeopardizes the safety of our communities and undermines the rule of law. It also strains local budgets for schools, hospitals and social safety net programs. Harboring people in this country illegally is a felony, and our governor should be cooperating with enforcement efforts designed to deport dangerous criminals, not obstructing them."

Tiffany has been both a frequent critic of Evers, and of illegal immigration in Wisconsin.

He has said for years that because of President Biden’s immigration policies every state in the U.S. is now a border state, and every community has been impacted by illegal immigrants.

He expanded on that thought in his op-ed.

"In Abbotsford, a migrant is charged with stabbing three people, killing two children. In Prairie du Chien, a Venezuelan gang member is charged with sexually assaulting a woman and abusing a child, and in Rusk County, a father of three was killed by a man who admitted he is not in this country legally and was charged with felony homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. These are not isolated incidents; they are a direct result of the Democrats’ open border policies," Tiffany added. "This must stop. Regaining control of our border and deporting those who have violated our laws are critical to reversing the damage inflicted over the last four years."

Tiffany explained in his piece that there are three immediate solutions. One, he said, starts “by securing our border and stopping the flow of illegal immigration.” The second, he wrote, “the focus must shift to mass deportations, starting with criminals not in this country legally.” And finally he said people who are here illegally should self deport, and apply to get back into the United States legally.

“After securing the border and ensuring able-bodied, working-aged Americans are back in the workforce, we can determine how many legal immigrants and guest workers we want to admit,” Tiffany wrote. “It’s time to put Wisconsinites first. We don’t need dismissive rhetoric from our governor. We need action. Evers needs to stop obstructing the law and work toward getting noncitizens with criminal histories off our streets and out of our communities. Anything less is a betrayal of Wisconsin voters and the mandate they decisively delivered on Nov. 5.”
