The arms of the often-overreaching Dept. of Natural Resources got a little shorter thanks to a recent state Supreme Court decision. A dozen years after the DNR gave a pair of Lake Superior property owners the go-ahead to build a pier, the agency came back to amend the permit. They don’t have the authority, the high court ruled, reaffirming its new stance that it won’t simply defer to state agencies’ interpretations of the law.
