A Day at Fighting Bob: The Progressives’ Nirvana

September 21, 2016

What do the dog days of summer mean to you? Perhaps it means one last cookout, or the return of jaywalking students to campus. Here in the People’s Republic of Madison, the end of summer means something in particular for many inhabitants: Fighting Bob Fest, or as we like to call it, the Progressives’ Nirvana. Every year, the Progressive magazine and the Cap Times unite to put on a day of appreciation for all things solar, socialist, and slightly insane. We can think of a lot of ways to describe the event, and “boring” isn’t one of them. This past weekend, we saw posters describing every child’s “right to play,” the declaration that solar energy alone will bring peace to the world, urgent warnings about the danger of self-insurance and school choice, 9/11 truthers, and even pamphlets urging workers to commit sabotage on their employers. Only in Madison! Click through the photos and enjoy.
