Time to End Wisconsin’s Stewardship Program?

[Madison, Wisc…] Gov. Scott Walker proposed freezing the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program in the 2015-17 state budget, but there is still uncertainty about whether the legislature will approve his plan. The Stewardship program borrows money to purchase land around Wisconsin for conservation and other public use, however debt service payments have neared $90 million in the last year.
