[Madison, Wisc…] A UW-Madison employee said the average Joe would only be moved to support the university if Bucky Badger were on the cutting block during a budget forum on Thursday.

“Many average citizens would rather get their $5 property tax [cut] and buy one more beer a year than support the university,” stated Greg Padden, an IT specialist at UW-Madison.

The entire UW-System would see its state aid cut by $150 million annually if the current proposal is approved. Rebecca Blank, UW-Madison’s Chancellor, told students and faculty that UW-Madison’s share of that cut will likely be $57 million.

The Wisconsin State Journal’s website features a UW Employee salary database. According to those records, Greg Padden’s salary is $88,765 this year. Link: http://host.madison.com/data/uw_salaries/details/?Name=PADDEN,%20GREGORY%20S
