[Madison, Wisc…] Brett Healy, President of the John K. MacIver Institute for Public Policy, released the following statement after President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address on Tuesday and his visit to Waukesha, WI today:

“I am stunned by President Obama’s complete disregard for our nation’s Constitution, given his recent remarks about changing laws by executive order.

“The President made it clear in his State of the Union address that he does not feel he needs to respect the Constitution – the cornerstone of our democracy. Why he thinks he can pass laws without Congress is beyond me.

“President Obama may be surprised, but it is not in his power to circumvent Congress to remake America into what he solely deems best.

“Early this month, I joined leaders of fellow think tanks from across the country in calling for President Obama to respect the Constitution. Today, I am renewing this effort and hope the President will put down his pen and instead work with Congress to enact the changes he is seeking.”
