Sebelius’ Claims about Wisconsin Health Care Don’t Add Up

[Milwaukee, Wisc…] During Health and Human Services Sec. Kathleen Seblius’ visit to Milwaukee last week, she made claims regarding Wisconsin’s health care system that may be entirely inaccurate. While the non-partisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau predicted back in May that the Medicaid expansion would mean $2.4 billion in additional federal funding over the next eight years, Sebelius claims Wisconsin would get $10 billion over the next decade. The HHS Secretary also claimed that 500,000 people in Milwaukee do not have health insurance, even though the population is just under 600,000. Requests for clarification from HHS were not returned.
