
“Karen Kuehl, finance director, said Fond du Lac County employees paid in excess of $1.9 million in 2012 toward their retirement. Each year, there have been increases in health insurance costs and employee and employer contributions to retirement.
Kuehl said she recalled a time before the implementation of the Act 10 Budget Repair Bill when county employees paid just $200,000 toward retirement benefits.”
Having employees contribute more to their retirement plans is one of many tools localities are using to cover budget shortfalls.
