Employees in Vilas County Participate in Buyout Program

Vilas County will have fifteen less employees this year, after employees agreed to individual buyout plans offered by the county.

According the to Lakeland Times, the buyout plans will cost the county $245,521 this year, averaging $16,368 per employee. A third of the employee buy-outs were over $20,000 in total, with the highest being $22,807.

Despite costing the county money this year, the money will be recouped by the county because of lower labor costs in the future. The county believes it will save money by not replacing the positions or by replacing the positions at a lower cost.

All the jobs that are replaced will be replaced internally, if possible. The current salaries being lost would have cost the county $887,569 this year and $900,805 next year.
