Racine Unified Attempts to Fix Unfunded Liabilities

Some school districts that offer health insurance to their retirees are facing funding problems as baby boomers retire en masse and health care costs grow.

But the story is different locally.

Racine Unified officials reduced projected retiree health care costs by $21 million between 2006 and 2010, district documents with the most recent available figures show. And when new projections come out next year, Unified’s reduction should be even greater, district Chief Financial Officer Dave Hazen said.
