Big Government Labor Union Leaders Go All Out for Falk in Last-Minute Push

MacIver News Service | May 3, 2012

[Madison, Wisc..] With their favored candidate for Governor trailing in the polls despite benefiting from more than $5 million in support, Big Government Labor Unions are going all out for a last-minute grassroots blitz in the final weekend before next Tuesday’s Primary.

The local chapters of the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees are gathering at more than thirty staging areas in communities throughout Wisconsin to make calls and go door-to-door for former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk.

Falk, the endorsed candidate of most of the state’s public employee unions, is trailing Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett in every publicly-released poll, including a recent survey released this week by Marquette University. That poll had Barrett up 38-21 over Falk. Running a distant third and fourth in the poll were Secretary of State Doug La Follette (8) and State Senator Kathleen Vinehout (6). La Follette and Vinehout could play spoiler, however, helping Barrett achieve a victory with a plurality, but not majority, of Primary votes Tuesday.

To assist Falk, Big Government labor union leaders have already pumped more than $5 million into the WI for Falk Super PAC, with AFSCME spending $1.2 million to-date.

With Barrett in the lead, the Big Government labor union leadership is scrambling. Six AFSMCE leaders sent out this urgent email yesterday, announcing a massive effort to mobilize public employees for Kathleen Falk.

Dear xxx,

With the May 8th Primary Election fast approaching, we want to share with you the schedule for the get out the vote (GOTV) efforts.

Making sure our like-minded neighbors, friends and co-workers get out and vote is absolutely critical to our success.

Listed below are staging areas for GOTV activities supporting AFSCME endorsed candidates in the primary, including Kathleen Falk for Governor and Mahlon Mitchell for Lt. Governor.

Republicans are again fielding fake Democrats in the primaries, so it’s important to make sure Republican crossover votes don’t derail the real Democrats, especially in the Lt. Governor and State Senate races.

Our endorsed Senate candidates are John Lehman in District 21, Kristen Dexter in District 23, Donna Siedel in District 29 and Lori Compas in District 13.

Please find the staging location most convenient for you and come out and help for a few hours.

We know you’ve done so much to get us this far. Falling short now is not an option. Please join us in the coming days to make sure our friends make it through the May 8 primary in good shape.

Then it’s on to the main event – the recall of Walker and his followers on June 5.

Thank you for all you do.

In solidarity,

Jim Garity, President
