The county will be saving $2.9 million per year by requiring unionized and non-union employees to pay 5.9 percent of their salaries into their pensions. This was a provision passed in the state’s budget repair bill that requires all public employees (excluding sworn law enforcement personnel) to pay half the required Wisconsin Retirement System contribution, or 5.9 percent….

He said one of his goals with the 2012 budget was to avoid dipping into the county’s general fund, which the board was able to accomplish.
